Silence truly is golden…for relationships.
I always feel the need to fill any silence with chatter. It’s exhausting and simply not true.
Research from the University of Reading has shown that couples who can sit in silence—not because they’re upset, but because they’re entirely comfortable just being together—are actually showcasing a healthy relationship. Picture the two of you quietly sitting on the couch, reading or listening to music. Researchers found that this is a sign of a deep emotional connection.
"We don’t always need to fill the space with conversation," says Netta Weinstein, a psychologist at the University of Reading. "Silent moments can be powerful ways to connect."
