If you were asked about the best and worst behaved dog breeds, would you say the worst-behaved is your dog…or maybe the neighbor’s?
In my opinion, a dog’s behavior largely depends on the owner. It comes down to how much training they provide, what behaviors they allow, and their consistency. That said, there are definitely some things my dogs, Buck & Penny, do that I let slide…
Forbes conducted a survey of 5,000 dog owners, with 200 owners for each of the 25 most popular dog breeds according to the American Kennel Club. The aim was to rank the best and worst behaved breeds.
They looked at various behaviors, including:
- Listening to commands
- Jumping on people
- Barking
- Begging for food
- Trying to escape
In the end, the best-behaved dog breed was the Labrador Retriever. The Rottweiler came in second, followed by:
- Shih Tzu
- Cane Corso
- Golden Retriever
- German Shepherd
- Boston Terrier
- Poodle
- Yorkshire Terrier
- Bulldog
On the other hand, the least-behaved breed was the Siberian Husky. The Beagle was second, followed by:
- Havanese
- French Bulldog
- Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
- Bernese Mountain Dog
- Pembroke Welsh Corgi
- Miniature Schnauzer
- Dachshund
- Australian Shepherd
The breeds that ranked in the middle included:
- Boxer
- Pomeranian
- Doberman Pinscher
- Great Dane
- German Shorthaired Pointer
What do you think about these rankings? Do they match your experiences with different dog breeds?
