Nearly three-quarters of Millennial parents believe they are outperforming their own parents in raising their children. Specifically, 73% uphold this belief, and 88% acknowledge their parenting approach is distinct from that of their parents.
What sets modern parenting apart? The survey identifies four key strategies that differ from previous generations:
- Gentle parenting: This method involves guiding children through decisions without imposing strict demands or rules.
- Sources of advice: While 24% of parents have sought guidance from social media, it ranks fifth in trustworthiness after family, peers, friends, and parenting books.
- Mental health awareness: Unlike the past, where the response might have been to simply endure, 80% of Millennial parents emphasize the importance of discussing mental health and emotional well-being, with 98% open to such conversations with their children—something two-thirds report their parents never did.
- Engagement with children: A significant 80% of Millennial parents strive to put their children before work, and 77% believe they are more engaged with their children than their own parents were.
Additional insights reveal that one-third of Millennial parents often face scrutiny from their own parents regarding their contemporary parenting methods.
Despite varying opinions, there’s a consensus that parenting today is challenging, with 43% of parents experiencing burnout.
