The American Kennel Club’s Most Popular Dog Breeds of 2023

The allure of French bulldogs has captivated Americans’ hearts, propelling them to the pinnacle of popularity in the nation for the consecutive second year. The American Kennel Club (AKC), renowned as the globe’s premier purebred canine registry, has unveiled its 2023 rankings, with the charming ‘Frenchies’ securing the lead position once more.

Annually, the AKC taps into its vast registration data to determine the year’s most favored breeds.

Witnessing a remarkable ascent, the French bulldog has leaped from the 14th spot in 2012 to second place in 2021, ultimately clinching the top rank in 2022. Celebrated for their affectionate nature, playful spirit, adaptability, and balanced temperament, these bat-eared canines have become a beloved choice.

Prior to the French bulldog’s reign, the Labrador retriever was the undisputed champion for an impressive 31 years, now ranking second for the subsequent year.

Among the 200 breeds evaluated by the AKC, the following are positioned at the list’s end: Azawakh (196th), Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen (197th), Norwegian Lundehund (198th), English Foxhound (199th), and Sloughi (200th).
