These Foods Can Boost Your Happiness

With colder weather and earlier sunsets we totally understand feeling sad during these next few months, but apparently you can actually improve your mood by eating certain foods!

According to experts, there is a "food-mood connection" that if you eat certain foods that have antidepressant effects or are high in certain vitamins, then your mood will gradually improve. Here are some of the foods experts recommend:

  • Turmeric - Curcumin, the active ingredient that gives this spice its yellow color, has been shown to have antidepressant effects.
  • Kombucha - It’s loaded with probiotics and live microorganisms and research shows they have antidepressant effects.
  • Cinnamon - This spice is full of antioxidants, combats inflammation and protects against neurodegenerative diseases like dementia. Also research has found it also has a positive effect on mood.
  • Salmon - A great source of omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon is also high in vitamin B12, which is associated with positive mood and may even help ward off depression.
  • Leafy greens - Kale, spinach and other leafy greens have high amounts of magnesium, which can boost serotonin.
  • Almonds - They’re nutrient-rich and eating almonds regularly has been linked to lower rates of depression and improved mood.

So get out there and improve your mood with some cinnamon almonds!
