More Single Women Are Buying Homes!

Not everyone who buys a home is part of a couple. More and more singles are purchasing homes on their own these days, and according to a new study, it seems single women are more likely to do it on their own than single men.

A report by LendingTree finds that on average, 22% of homes are owned by single women, while only 13% are owned by single men. What’s more, in all of the 50 largest metro areas women own more homes than men, translating to about 70,000 more homes.

The report finds that New Orleans is the city with the largest share of single women owning their own homes, about 27.08%, while Oklahoma City is the city with the largest share of single men owning homes, 15.52%, although even there more single women own properties (23.78%). Meanwhile, Miami is the city with the largest gender gap when it comes to owning a home, with 26.81% of homes owned by single women, and 14.22% owned by single men, a difference of 12.59%.
