The amount of water you need during these hot summer months may surprise you. It's probably quite a bit more than you're drinking...
Your water needs vary depending on your weight and body type, says Lauren Minchen, a registered dietician and nutritionist at Lauren Minchen Nutrition in New York.
So, what's the recommendation?
- 2 to 4 liters for active adults. (about 68-135 ounces!!)
- Registered dietitian, Amy Shapiro, says a good rule of thumb is to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water. If you weigh 180 pounds, you need to drink 90 ounces, or about 3 liters, of water daily.
- The Mayo Clinic also recommends drinking 2.7 liters of water a day for women and 3.7 liters for men.
I try to drink 64 ounces, daily. Basically, I walk around with a 32oz. water bottle. If I drink 2 of those, I'm feelin' pretty good.
How much water are you drinking daily? Do you keep track?
