Pistol Annies New Album is "More Adult" Than Ever Before

It's been 5 years since Pistol Annies released their album Annie Up. Now we've finally gotten new music with their third album together Interstate Gospel.

There are many things that inspired them to become a group, but this new album came from them all collectively deciding it was time to work on new music after Miranda Lambert texted a lyric to other band members Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley. That song turned out to be "When I Was His Wife."

During their interview on the Bobby Bones Show, the group shared that this album is a little more "adult." Together they shared each of them has their own background in their lives they're bringing from divorces to babies to animals. They wrote 20 songs together to be considered for this album, but the ones that didn't make it will be saved for a later time.

Their song "Stop Drop and Roll One" came while they were writing the single "Got My Name Changed Back." Another song on the album "Best Years Of My Life" was a melody that came to Monroe in the morning and was only a couple of lines until the group could sit down together to write. Presley shared that her pregnancy brain is making it difficult to write right now and Lambert said that to get in the mood to write, she has to "hunker down and drink." Also noted that "Sugar Daddy" was the last song they wrote and Lambert explained the song comes from her just wanting "a cowboy with a jet."

Although some bands have separate tour buses, Pistol Annies all tour on the same bus together. They also make important band decisions as a whole while looking out for each other. When management can't get ahold of all of them then the majority rule wins and they will never select a press photo where someone looks bad.
