Boston Red Sox fans showed a Baltimore Oriole player that a few bad apples don’t speak for the rest of them.
Adam Jones received a standing ovation as the crowd at last night’s game showed the outfielder some love. One day after he said he was racially taunted by fans at Fenway Park, Jones watched fans rise and applaud as he came to the plate yesterday in the first inning. Mookie Betts, took off his cap and applauded from his spot in right field.. Starting pitcher Chris Sale stepped off the mound to allow the ovation to continue and Fenway beer vendors joined in.
The Red Sox met with Jones earlier in the day to assure him they are taking steps to avoid any future incidents. Team president Sam Kennedy says offending fans will be ejected and could have their tickets revoked.
Earlier yesterday, Jones expressed appreciation for the response to the situation. “I think it’s tremendous how the Red Sox, how MLB, they got ahead of it as soon as possible, as soon as they heard about it.”
