American Airlines' New System to Stop "Gate Lice" and Improve Boarding

American Airlines is stepping up efforts to ensure smoother travel experiences during the holiday rush by cracking down on passengers who attempt to cut the boarding line, often referred to as "gate lice."

Following a successful trial in select locations last month, the airline is now implementing its new boarding system in over 100 airports. This system audibly alerts when a passenger tries to board before their group is called and automatically rejects their ticket, directing the offending passenger to the back of the line.

The result is a bit of public embarrassment for those attempting to cut in line and a more orderly boarding process for everyone else.
